Time control is a time limit imposed on both players to hasten moves. Most games use the sudden death adaptation, where one player immediately loses if they run out of time. Both players may also be given more time at a certain move number, e.g. the 40th, this is called overtime.

Fast Chess[]

The following classifications of games are based on the time each player is given.

  • Bullet chess - 1s-5m
  • Blitz - 5-10m
  • Rapid - 10m-60m
  • Classical - 60+m
