The Borg Defense

The Borg Defense is a chess opening that starts with the moves

  1. d4 g5?

Out of all the twenty possible of Black’s responses to d4, g5 is considered to be the worst one. It is because the g5 pawn is hanging for no reason. White should capture Black’s g-pawn with the bishop on c1 since it is hanging for no reason. It will be a disaster for black since his/her g-pawn is missing which severely weakens the kingside, White has already developed a bishop, and white already has a center pawn in the middle. This opening got its name because it is the reverse spelling of the Grob Opening, which starts with 1. g4.
