Hook mates in the middle of the board and on the edge of the board.

With a rook, knight, pawn, and a blocking enemy piece, you can deliver a hook mate. The rook, guarded by the knight, which in turn is guarded by the pawn delivers the checkmate and covers 3 surrounding squares. The pawn and knight cover 1 square each (if the king is mated in the middle of the board), and the defending pawn occupies the last flight square.
