The International Chess Federation, FIDE (French: Fédération Internationale des Échecs), is the governing body of the sport of chess, based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It regulates all international chess championships, englobing 190 countries as affiliate members. The institution was founded in 1924 in Paris, France, under the motto "Gens una Sumus" (Latin for "We are One Family"). In 1999, it was recognized by the International Olympic Committee as a Global Sporting Organization [1].
